CIA FIRST STUDENTS DEBATE AT MODEL UNITED NATIONS

From Friday 25th October to Sunday 27th October, eighteen delegates and one chair from CIA FIRST took part in the annual International School of Phnom Penh's Model United Nations conference. Students were given different countries to represent and were placed in various different committees ranging from the Human Rights Council, Economic and Social Committee, Environmental Committee and Generally assemblies.

Within their committees, the students considered a number of pertinent questions such as militarisation of Space, cybersecurity, equal access to education and environmental protections. They gave opening speeches on their country's stances, lobbied other delegates, collaborated in writing real resolutions and then debated and amended these resolutions with an aim of passing them to the final plenary on Sunday morning.

This was an extremely successful conference for all of our students who really lived up to the theme of the event "Giving Youth a Voice". Students discovered their own self-confidence and developed many valuable skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, collaborating with others, including those who differ from themselves, and effective, respectful debating.
